Trusting God With The Details

A few times a year, our family has the opportunity to run Surf and Serves all over the world. The amount of details and logistics that go into these trips is mind-boggling. Lodging, food, transportation, where we are going to surf, medical kits, paperwork, budgets, and so much more— it can often feel overwhelming. Currently, I am in Costa Rica with a team of 28 people, and for the first time, I approached this trip differently. Sure, I still had the usual amount of logistics to prepare for, but I wanted to spend an equal amount of time preparing for this trip with prayer.

Ephesians 6:18-20 says that we should “pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people. Pray also for me, that whenever I speak, words may be given me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel, for which I am an ambassador in chains. Pray that I may declare it fearlessly, as I should.”

Rather than stressing over all the details of the trip, like whether we will have tasty food, if people will be happy with their roommates, or if the timing of everything will line up, my questions completely changed. Of course, I did my due diligence in lining up the details of travel, but my questions shifted. Instead, I asked, Lord, is this where we should be spending our time? Lord, prepare our hearts for what you have in store for us. What a difference it has made on our trip! It has changed my posture from thinking I have all the answers to the trip’s details to knowing that God has it all in His hands, and His name alone will be glorified as we are sent out.

Is there something in your life that you need to commit to prayer instead of handling on your own? If you need prayer, drop us a prayer request, and we would love to pray for you!
